 Some babies will need to continue taking nutritional supplements after leaving the hospital. For infant infants, this may mean one or two day-fortified breast milk bottles as well as iron and vitamin D supplements. Some babies will need more supplements than others.


This includes babies who are not able to ingest enough milk to get the calories they need to grow properly.

 Babies who are breastfeeding may need a supplement called a human milk fortifier mixed in their feeds. This gives them protein, calories, iron, calcium, and additional vitamins. Babies who receive formula may need supplements of certain nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and D, and folic acid.



Some babies will need to continue taking nutritional supplements after leaving the hospital. After every feeding, babies should look satisfied. They should have up to 6 to 8 bowel movements and at least 6 to 8 wet diapers each day. blood or watery stools and regular vomiting may be signs of a problem.
